The ECCp-109 project is a distributed computing effort designed to solve a level I encryption challenge sponsored by Certicom. "Distributed computing" allows computers to solve large-scale computational problems together, usually through the internet. The ECCp-109 challenge is unique in that computers do not need internet connections to participate, making it a very attractive project for low bandwidth or standalone machines. The software itself uses only cpu idle time and can be run as a screen saver, taskbar icon, or hidden service, depending on the version installed.
Participants in the project get individual and TeAm statistic updates 4 times daily, with periodic updates on the status of the entire project. The AnandTech team has a strong presence in the ECCp-109 project, and is competing with powerful rival teams. We need your help to challenge for top position!! And did we mention that there are two $1000 prizes given to the 2 winners of the project?
If you'd like to ask some questions, drop by the AnandTech DistributedComputing Forum and post a new thread, or participate in one of the existing ECCp discussions. This FAQ should contain all the info you'll need to get the ECCp-109 client software up and running. We look forward to you joining the TeAm - every MHz counts!
