Editorial Ranking Milestone

Members that still need to rejoinThe list is shrinking slowly, but there are still a huge number of members that need to rejoin our team, because of the DNet error a few weeks ago. Please, take a look at the list below. If you are on it, then don't hesitate and rejoin. The date behind the names is the last submittal date. We will leave this list in the newsletter for another two weeks.
The original call can be found here.
A respectable number of new members can be added to our ever increasing ranks. From Nov. 26 until Dec. 3rd: Project RC5rshacklo, Ken Ng, jorisvanherzele, pegly, psylark, drtomsnot, skullone, gpshonik, howardnugent, ish, caveman, The Reaper, jboggs619, doc.holliday, kevinwilliamson, hanta007. Dennilfloss is still on a assimilation crusade. Take a look at this first thread for Dennilfloss' achievements. He has started a second thread because the first one became too long. Aduls accomplishments can be followed here. A general assimilation thread is started by Adul and Train. Here every TA-member can report additions. Project SetiThe Magicman (returned after a long period), JPJonesInGa, Byron Miller, TeamAnandtech@CUBoulder, Ivar Knutsen, Igor the Village Idiot and #10. They are all welcomed into Team Anandtech. We hope all the new members will be part of the largest distributed computing family for a very long time. If we have forgotten anybody, please
don't feel passed. It's difficult to keep track of every new member.
Project RC5Our assimilation and recruiting efforts are finally paying off. Slowly, but with a steady pace our output is increasing, not only in the RC5 project, but also in OGR and Seti. The dump of several miniteams within the DPC-ranks is still a hot topic:
A lot of their miniteams are saving for a big dump before the end
of the year. In the new thread
a complete overview is given by date of flush. Team Killemall has
made a dump of 1.3 million blocks. The stats for this dumping day can
be followed in the DPC
Hitparade.
Project SetiOverall # ranking for 12/03 in the
Club Teams category. Project OGR-25
A good number of TA-members is helping out in the OGR-project. This is absolutely necessary, if we want to take the No. 1 spot. We have only a few weeks left to pass Slash Dot. We still have a couple of weeks to help TA get back into the #1 spot in OGR-25. Make sure your client is set to pull from the TeAm proxies, set your project order to OGR,RC5,DES=0,CSC=0 and frequent-threshold-checks=4 and count some rulers. Your client will revert back to RC5-64 automatically when it can't get any new OGR work units, but will flush and fetch OGR as needed. Important to mention is that the DPC
are still converting some power to the OGR project. Somehow, they
want to become a major player in this project also. Wildhagen is
posting the DPC Hitparade on the DPC-forum and tries to raise interest
amongst the DPC members for this project. It will be a long time
before they even come close to our level. You only have to take
a look at the above statistics overview. Project GFAs you can see, we have a negative number of WU's. Because of the anonymous benefactor, TA has had a great number of rays contributed to the teams total, that were not legitimate. It looks like we're going to loose the battle for the No.1 spot in this project. It is almost impossible to stay ahead of Team ProcessTree. We can only hope, that there will be a for-profit project soon, that will draw members from this team. Osmo made a call in which she is asking for some assistance in the efforts of keeping TA on the No. 1 spot in this project. Without the anonymous contributor, we need roughly 75 MHz to stay on top of the world. Stats taken from Osmo's
page:
This section is meant to congratulate TA-members on their special achievements. More and more TA-members are getting their milestones. Lets keep up the pace. The milestones for the different projects are:
Project RC5We have changed the list to an alphabetical order, so everyone can now find his own milestone a bit easier. 2000, November 26 - December 3
This list of RC5 milestone makers is a good example of what we are capable off Project SetiFor the moment, we have picked the milestone makers from the
messages in the forums. Project OGR-25This list of OGR-milestone makers is not complete. They are taken from the forum messages, made by NT4Mike. Due to circumstances of a personal matter, he wasn't able to post all of the achievements. We all wish him luck for the time ahead.
Project GFWe are still working on a mechanism for listing the milestone makers for GF.

Organizational News |
Besides the slowing down of OGR-stub issuing by DNet, there is no organizational news important enough to be mentioned.
Topics RC5 |
In his attempt to get to page 1 on the stats pages of the teams' proxy, GeoffS has gotten permission to install the client on over 100 computers at his workplace. Right now, the machines are P3-500, but will be upgraded to P3-600 soon.
In this topic, a very interesting discussion is taking place. A number of opinions are given, so there should be one that fits every circumstance or configuration.
IsOs has a very specific dual processor configuration and encountered some problems. He is advice by some of our hard- and software experts.
Adul is asking for advice, which statistics software is best to display the log-files, generated by the DNet perproxy.
Topics Seti |
Fairly new to Seti, Nighthawk69 is wondering about the various times it takes to complete a seti-wu. Answers from several members state, this is perfectly normal. Also some advice is given to optimize the output.
/it is not clear, which OS is faster on Seti WU's. There are several circumstances to take into consideration, before a conclusive advice can be given about this subject.
Russ2kSE needed help with this problem. With some good advice, it seems to work out.
Topics OGR |
Here the DPC are announcing their mega flush in the OGR project
for Monday, Dec. 4th. They hope to get to the No. 1 position. The
other topic in this thread is the slowing down of stub-issues by
DNet. They invented the rumor that we are trying to get all remaining
stubs. As a countermeasure, they are planning to cheat and drain
all the keyservers of DNet and our Team, just to ensure we don't
reach the No. 1 spot. What else can you expect from a team, that
has no honor and respect for other teams. Hereby, I call upon all
TA-members, that are working on the OGR project, to get OGR-stubs
from the DPC proxies, if none are available from other places. The
DPC-proxy addresses are:
proxy.dsmarty.com
energy.keyserver.org
wildhagen.keyserver.org
victorb.dsmarty.com
dutchman.keyserver.org
Topics GF |
Besides the already mentioned anonymous contributor, there is not much new to tell about the GammaFlux project.
Linux and Crackrack info |
Blade_47 has a very strange problem with his cracker. It will boot, but after about 1 minute, it shuts down itself. Some probable solutions are given, but in the end it appeared to be the power supply.
Somehow this question comes up every now and then. We will leave it for a number of issues. Here, DanC asks the TA-members if someone knows how to connect more than one motherboard to a power supply. Lord Demios answers with a very elaborate story on how to go ahead.
Other interesting topics |
We have seen quite a number of this sort of questions. Most of them were meant as annoying and to stir up the TA-community. This question seems to be legit and honest. This is rewarded with some valuable remarks by TA-members.
Mika encountered a problem with his hard drive. There is an urgent need for recovery. Due to several helpful hints Mika was able to reconstruct the most important part and recovered the data on it.
Totally forgot to mention in the last newsletter, but there is an archive set up on the teams website. Mika put some work in it again, so thanks for all the effort you put in keeping the server up and running.
The RC5 output still seems to suffer from the stats outage a few weeks ago. That is why the list of members to rejoin have been added again.
We are slowly, but steadily climbing in all of the major projects. OGR is showing a major increase, while the RC5 output is slowly rising. This last output needs to get higher, if we want to be able to hold off the DPC, so again the call for assimilations and new recruits. Our Seti team is steadily raising their output, getting more WU's pumped out every week.
The rate of subscriptions is slowing down. With last issue we had 217, compared to the 230 we have right now. I guess most of the active TA-members have subscribed. However, the more subscriptions we have, the more people will read about our efforts.
If you have someone that might be interested in the achievements of TA, e.g. friends, family or colleagues, then please forward a copy to them and show them how to sign up.
A number of news clippings from the previous issues are reappearing in this newsletter. They might be of interest to all the new subscribers.
In this newsletter, we have mentioned all the topics we could think of. Yet, not all of them are filled yet. In time, all topics will be covered. If any remark, idea or suggestion might arise, please don't hesitate to send them to the editorial team.
The purpose of this newsletter is to keep every person, interested in the various distributed computing projects the members of Team Anandtech are participating in, up-to-date with the latest achievements and developments.
The aim is to keep the file-size of the newsletter below 55Kb. This to guarantee an acceptable download time for those with a slower connection.
